FAQ - Companies/Mines

I am in possession of old stock certificates from a BC company, how do I find out if they are still of value?

ANSWER:

It is often difficult to find out if old stock certificates are still of value – a company may have gone out of business or maybe has been purchased by othjer copmpanies over the years.

Useful links to check:

There is an interesting article done by CBC on researching old stocks:  http://www.cbc.ca/money/story/2008/05/15/f-lostmoney-stockcertificates.html.

If it was or is a BC company, you could try looking it up on the BC Ministry of Energy, Mines & Petroleum Resources database called MinFile as this is a repository for all mining properties in BC.  Here is the link to MinFile:
http://imperial.minfile.gov.bc.ca/default.aspx.

Government of Canada link to check the status of companies: www.fin.gov.bc.ca/registries/corppg/crrecords.htm

Industry Canada, Corporations – their telephone number is: 1 800 567-2345  email: hotline.service@ic.gc.ca
