Exploration Geologist

Skeena Resource Limited is a Canadian exploration mining company, focused on working tthe restart of the past producing Eskay Creek gold-silver mine with additional development projects in our portfolio, all located in Tahltan Territory in the Golden Triangle of northwest British Columbia, Canada. Eskay Creek was the highest-grade gold mine in the world when in production. The mine produced 3.3 million ounces of gold and 160 million ounces of silver at average grades of 45 g/t gold and 2,224 g/t silver from 1994-2008. We are aggressively advancing Eskay Creek towards a Pre-Feasibility Study with a target to release in H1 2021.

Job Title: Exploration Geologist – Full-time Term Position

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Exploration Manager, the exploration geologist will collaboratively work to build and evaluate a pipeline of exploration targets at the Eskay Creek project. Early-stage work consisting of re-logging drill core, mapping and prospecting will start in the Spring and will transition to target delineation and detailed target follow-up prior to advancing the most prospective targets to the drill testing phase. Work will be based at the company’s Eskay Creek project in northwestern British Columbia. The ideal candidate will be someone who has practical field experience with precious metals exploration and diamond drilling programs.
This position is seasonal in nature and the duration of the employment term is expected to be 5-6 months depending on workload and drill program needs. The position is scheduled to start in late April 2021.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Work with Skeena’s technical team on exploration efforts focused at the Eskay Creek project including but not limited to field mapping and prospecting, collection of geochemical samples and structural data, core logging, up-to-date plotting and interpretation of data and results, implementing and monitoring relevant workflows and procedures (QA/QC etc.).
• Contribute to geological interpretation of the deposit including data compilation, integration, and 3D modelling.
• Review and evaluate data that is collected daily and provide updates on observations and interpretations.
• Communicate with supervisors on a regular basis and report all material exploration results in a timely manner.
• Promote a safety leadership culture by ensuring that safety practices are followed in accordance with Skeena’s health and safety policies.
• Actively seek opportunities to recognize health and safety hazards, resolve safety issues, and work to mitigate associated risks in the workplace.
• Monitor and maintain inventory of sampling supplies.
• All other duties related to the role.

The Ideal Candidate:

Academic/Education Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or Earth Sciences
• Registered P.Geo or able to register in a GIT program in B.C.
• Strong computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.), GIS programs (ArcGIS); experience with Leapfrog Geo and GeoSpark considered an asset
• Experience with digital data capture techniques and systems an asset
• Familiarity with relevant BC and federal legislation and regulations (e.g., WorksafeBC guidelines, Mines Act, Occupational Health and Safety Legislation) is desired;

Required Skills/Experience:

• A Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience is required;
• Mining experience is essential;
• Must have past demonstrated experience in helping build a strong safety culture, as well as awareness of, and adherence to, all required health and safety best practices.
• Class 5 driver’s license is required;
• Valid Worksafe BC Level 1 First Aid certification (or equivalent) is required
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment or individually;
• Practical field experience with exploration and core logging techniques
• Fast learner, motivated, outcome oriented;
• Thorough; with a good eye for error and changes;
• Adaptable to change, ability to operate in less than perfect conditions and with less than perfect information at times;
• Ability to work with minimal guidance (Must be self-directed);
• Must be able to work a rotational schedule in a remote mining camp; and
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada;

Working Conditions:

This position involves working at a remote exploration site on a general two week on/two week off rotation. The Eskay Creek project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Transportation would be provided from Telegraph Creek, Dease Lake and Iskut as well as charter flights from Vancouver, Kamloops, Prince George, Terrace and Smithers with shuttles from either the Bob Quinn airport or Terrace Airport to Eskay Creek camp facilities.

Prolonged periods of time at a desk working at a computer may be required. There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
