Skeena Resources Limited is a Canadian exploration mining company, focused on working towards the restart of the past producing Eskay Creek gold-silver mine with additional development projects in our portfolio, all located in Tahltan Territory in the Golden Triangle of northwest British Columbia, Canada. Eskay Creek was the highest-grade gold mine in the world when in production. The mine produced 3.3 million ounces of gold and 160 million ounces of silver at average grades of 45 g/t gold and 2,224 g/t silver from 1994-2008.

Job Title: Health and Safety Advisor – Eskay Creek

Position Summary:  Reporting Directly to the Health and Safety Manager, with a dotted line to the Site/Mine Managers, this position is responsible to develop policies, procedures, and initiatives to oversee the safety management and administration of the Eskay Creek project in accordance with Skeena’s safety programs, industrial best practice, and all regulatory/legislative requirements.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Oversees safety performance of multiple discreet projects across Skeena’s operations.
  • Monitors and reports on project safety performance, identifying safety issues, formulating corrective action plans; following up to ensure changes are implemented.
  • Attends construction work sites to inspect, investigate, and audit, occasionally during non-standard work hours or days.
  • Liaises with other project managers, company staff, and contractors to identify, assess and mitigate risks associated with construction and in and around the project operations.
  • Produces detailed reports, analyses data and develops trend analysis.
  • Develops policies, procedures, and initiatives to oversee safety management of contractors. Leads the ongoing review of contractor safety and security policies, procedures, and manuals, identifying required modifications to align with changing practices and regulatory requirements, recommends changes and methods of implementing approved changes.
  • Advises and guides project managers and monitors external personnel to ensure compliance with all Skeena safety programs industrial best practice and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides training to internal and external personnel on the safety requirements for work in and around the project sites and works with industry associations and developers to increase awareness.
  • Liaises with regulatory agencies such as WorkSafe BC, BC Safety Authority, BC Mines Inspector, and Emergency Response Agencies to exchange information, advice, and coordinate activities.
  • Leads designated initiatives to enhance safety performance and support a culture of safety and participates in various committees and meetings providing guidance and specialized advice in ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, legislation related to project and construction safety.
  • Promote team building at all levels, and a respectful cross-cultural work environment.
  • All other related duties as may be required by the Company.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Minimum 5 years related experience, preferably in a remote worksite in the mining and/or construction industry.
  • The Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is required for this position.
  • Must have a Valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to pass Fit For Duty testing.


Working Conditions:

This position involves working at a remote exploration site on a “general” two week on/two week off rotation.  The Eskay Creek project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Transportation would be provided from Telegraph Creek, Dease Lake and Iskut as well as charter flights from Vancouver, Kamloops, Prince George, Terrace and Smithers with shuttles from either the Bob Quinn airport or Terrace Airport to Eskay Creek camp facilities.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
