$71,298.93 - $81,387.14 annually effective Apr. 12, 2020 plus $32.89 bi-weekly isolation allowance for the Smithers location

The Mining Health, Safety and Enforcement Division (MHSE) is responsible for the health and safety, compliance management, audits and enforcement for the mining industry in BC. The primary focus for the Health and Safety Group is to ensure the health and safety of workers during the exploration, development, operation and closure of BC’s mining operations.

The Occupational Health Inspector is responsible for the review and development, enforcement, promotion and education of occupational health regulations as established by the Mines Act and Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC (HSR Code). The position involves travel to conduct mine inspections and works closely with Ministry and Industry personnel and other stakeholders throughout the province to provide technical support and guidance regarding occupational health.

The Occupational Health Inspector is a provincial specialist, providing advice on all issues related to occupational hygiene for the mining industry in BC. This includes the review of proposed mine development plans, conducting inspections, developing regulations, and more.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Master’s degree in occupational hygiene or a related area, or a professional designation in occupational hygiene (e.g. Certified Industrial Hygienist or Registered Occupational Hygienist) and a minimum of one year applied experience in occupational hygiene principles and practices, or health and safety, or your field of undergraduate scientific study
  • Candidates who complete the minimum education requirements by June 2020 and have a minimum of one year applied experience in occupational hygiene principles and practices, or health and safety, or your field of undergraduate scientific study may also be considered;

    OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered (such as a Bachelor of Science Degree and ability to demonstrate three years of focussed application of occupational hygiene principles and practices)
