VANCOUVER – The Mining Association of B.C. (MABC) is pleased to announce Dr. Robert Quartermain, Executive Chairman of Pretivm Resources, as the recipient of the 2017 Mining Person of the Year Award.
Each year, MABC presents the Mining Person of the Year Award to publicly recognize an outstanding individual who has shown leadership in advancing and promoting the mining industry in British Columbia. This year, MABC is pleased to honour Dr. Quartermain for his many contributions and leadership, most notably his integral role in the development of the Brucejack Mine, which went into commercial production in 2017.
“Over the course of a 40-year career, Bob Quartermain has established himself as a legendary figure in the Canadian mining industry, with an extraordinary record of exploration and development of mineral resources,” said Jeff Hanman, Chair, Mining Association of B.C. "In both his track record of entrepreneurial success and his commitment to giving back to our province and nation, Bob exemplifies the very best of our industry."
“Bob encompasses the true spirit of the B.C. mining industry,” said Bryan Cox, President & CEO of the Mining Association of B.C. “From exploration and development to building a mine that is now in full production, Bob has had an incredible impact on B.C.’s mining industry.”
Dr. Quartermain was the president of Silver Standard Resource Inc. from 1985 to 2010, taking the company from exploration to a company with a producing mine, five advanced development properties, numerous early stage exploration properties, and a market capitalization of over $2.0 billion. Dr. Quartermain is currently the Executive Chairman of Pretivm Resources, which recently began full production at its Brucejack Mine in northwestern B.C.
“Bob has helped build the BC mining industry and inspired a generation of miners. He will continue to influence the direction of the industry for years to come,” concluded Cox.
