MABC Announces 2018 Mining Person of the Year
VANCOUVER, BC — The Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC) is pleased to announce Richard Tremblay, Vice President and General Manager at Taseko’s Gibraltar Mine, as the 2018 Mining Person of the Year.
The Mining Person of the Year award marks the beginning of BC Mining Month, which celebrates the BC mining industry and its positive contribution to British Columbians each May through community-based and mining sector events. The Mining Person of the Year Award publicly recognizes an outstanding individual in the mining sector on an annual basis.
The 2018 award honours Richard Tremblay’s remarkable dedication and leadership within the industry, advancing research, management and community outreach. After 26 years in the BC mining sector, Richard has an in-depth knowledge of the industry, from managing large sites with over 1200 employees, to lending his voice on behalf of industry on mine permitting policies, stakeholder engagement and First Nations consultation.
In 2018, Richard was an important member of the BC Mining Jobs Task Force where his contributions made a valuable impact. The BC Mining Jobs Task Force was established in February 2018 by Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources Michelle Mungall to review exploration and mining in our province and identify ways to strengthen the industry. The Task Force included First Nations, academia, labour, communities and the mining industry and developed recommendations for government action to secure a promising future for the mining sector and employment opportunities for future generations.
MABC commends Richard’s dedication to advancing the industry and is grateful for his many contributions, which will continue to benefit our industry for years to come.
