Statement on Southern Mountain Caribou from Mining Association of BC

MABC members remain industry leaders in supporting the recovery of southern mountain caribou, and have contributed significant resources toward research, recovery, and the conservation of their habitat. We are pleased the Province intends to sign the Southern Mountain Caribou Bilateral Conservation Agreement and appreciate the Province’s work to balance the interests of industry, Indigenous Peoples, and communities. MABC acknowledges the goals of the Province to allow for more time to engage with affected communities, Indigenous Nations and industry on long-term caribou protection to achieve our shared goals of caribou recovery, and social and economic stability. We continue to work with the government and Indigenous Nations to ensure planned and existing mining projects can continue to provide economic benefit to the region, and to British Columbia.
