VANCOUVER, BC – Michael Goehring, President & CEO of the Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC), made the following statement in response to the imposition of U.S. tariffs:

“Tariffs imposed by the U.S. will be devastating for BC’s economy and for British Columbians.

“The tariffs come at a time when Canada and the U.S. should be working together to strengthen North America’s critical minerals supply chain to meet our mutual economic, defence, and national security objectives. Instead, tariffs will weaken our existing supply chains and strengthen our adversaries’.

“British Columbia has or produces sixteen of the fifty minerals the U.S. has identified as being vital to their national interest. BC is well positioned to provide the critical minerals the U.S. and our allies require in the years to come.

“The ongoing instability and uncertainty from the Trump administration underscores the urgency for the BC and federal government to secure First Nations partnerships and streamline permitting processes to get new mines built in the provincial and national interest. At the same time, it is imperative both governments aggressively pursue new markets to reduce our dependence on the U.S.”
