VANCOUVER, BC – MABC released the following statement from Michael Goehring, President & CEO, in response to the addition of three mine development projects to the Government of British Columbia’s Critical Minerals Office:

“The referral of the North Island, Berg, and Wicheeda mine development projects to the BC government’s Critical Minerals Office is welcome news. Providing tailored support to development projects before they enter regulatory processes should facilitate more efficient and timely permitting and authorizations of major mines.

“The Critical Minerals Office should help coordinate, de-risk and prepare projects advancing to environmental assessment and mine permitting processes. This is an important step in the government’s overall mandate to expedite mine permitting and authorizations.

“However, government must also continue its work to speed up environmental assessments and Mines Act permitting. While noting progress with three mine-life extensions that were recently permitted to proceed, there is much more work to do. Realizing our once in a lifetime mining opportunity will require systemic change and durable improvements to the permitting and authorization of mine development projects in BC.”
