VANCOUVER, BC – Michael Goehring, President & CEO of the Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC) made the following statement on Hudbay receiving key permit amendments for the New Ingerbelle expansion project at its Copper Mountain mine, approximately 20km south of Princeton, BC.
“The Mining Association of BC is pleased Hudbay received its amended Mines Act and Environmental Management Act permits from the provincial government.
“The New Ingerbelle expansion project will secure local jobs, services and supply opportunities for the community of Princeton while generating significant economic benefits in southern British Columbia for decades. These permits mean more than 800 jobs will be sustained, along with vital government revenues.
“The permitting of New Ingerbelle follows the recent permitting of Eskay Creek and Mount Milligan mines in January, and Highland Valley Copper mine in June 2025. Progress is being made with respect to mine permitting in BC. However, to build on this momentum and realize our once in a lifetime mining opportunity, government must deliver systemic change and durable improvements to the permitting and authorization of mine development projects in BC.”
