VANCOUVER, BC – MABC released the following statement from Michael Goehring, President & CEO, in response to the provincial government’s 2026 budget:
“MABC is pleased Budget 2026 devoted $3 million in new funding to improve permitting for mineral exploration projects. However, the bigger picture is today’s provincial budget continues a worrisome trajectory of big deficits and debt, increased spending, and almost $4 billion in new taxes, including an expansion of the PST to accounting, engineering and geoscience services, which will raise costs on every mine and mine development project in BC.
“Unfortunately, the budget is unlikely to improve BC’s competitive position and attract more capital investment to BC’s mining sector. It underscores the urgency for Premier Eby and his government to continue to accelerate permitting for new mines, making expedited permitting the standard for every mine development in BC.”
