“The co-operation agreement between the Governments of Canada and British Columbia will help accelerate BC’s mining industry while making Canada’s economy stronger.
VANCOUVER, BC – Tim McEwan, Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs of the Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC) made the following statement on today’s Canada-BC Cooperative Prosperity Agreement.
“The co-operation agreement between the Governments of Canada and British Columbia will help accelerate BC’s mining industry while making Canada’s economy stronger.
Strategic investments in the North Coast Transmission Line, Newmont’s Red Chris mine expansion, and Roberts Bank Terminal 2 are very important nation-building projects that will enable the continued growth of British Columbia’s mining industry.
MABC is pleased the cooperation agreement commits to working with the Port of Prince Rupert and Port of Stewart to maximize the potential of these operations for critical mineral exports in Northern BC where much of BC’s new mining is expected to occur.
We also welcome the focus on skilled trades training and affordable childcare in the cooperation agreement, both of which are critical for providing the diverse workforce required to unleash the full potential of BC’s mining industry.
We applaud the Prime Minister’s and Premier’s tangible efforts to build on core strengths within BC’s mining industry for the benefit of all Canadians.”
