The Mining Association of BC is very proud to report that Mining for Miracles, the BC mining community’s long-standing fundraising campaign for BC Children’s Hospital, raised an incredible $2 million this year for the BC Children’s Hospital and its new Gut4Health initiative. The industry presented a $2 million cheque to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation during Miracle Weekend on June 2, 2019.

Every year, dedicated volunteers and participants from the mining community step up to support Mining for Miracles and raise funds to help improve the quality of healthcare for children throughout our province.  Funds raised through the event help support crucial research, treatment, care, specialized medical equipment and the construction of facilities. The Gut4Health initiative, launched this year, will further microbiome research and the development of new therapies with the goal of making BC Children’s the first children’s hospital in Canada to use gut bacteria to predict, prevent and treat infections and chronic inflammation in kids.

BC Children’s Hospital is the only hospital in the province focused exclusively on caring for children. As one of the few pediatric medical centres in North America with a world-class acute care centre, research institute, mental health facility and soon, rehabilitation centre, all on a single campus, BC Children’s provides specialized care, innovative therapies and expertise for BC’s kids, including the sickest and most seriously injured.

This year, representatives from across the industry displayed their generosity by participating in Mining for Miracles signature fundraising initiatives and events, including the celebrated Pie Throw, the Diamond Draw, the Mining for Miracles Online Auction and the Hooked on Miracles Fishing Tournament. In addition, we would also like to recognize the incredible contributions of volunteers from the mining community, who help fundraise through Mining for Miracles. From helping provide new hope to kids with rare diseases to giving more children access to the power of personalized medicine, Mining for Miracles is helping to keep BC Children’s Hospital at the forefront of excellence in pediatric care.

Mining for Miracles has raised more than $30 million over its thirty-year history. The partnership between BC Children’s Hospital Foundation and Mining for Miracles demonstrates that the BC mining industry is dedicated to supporting children’s healthcare in our province, and improving the quality of life for all BC families.
