VANCOUVER, BC – Michael Goehring, President & CEO of the Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC) made the following statement on the Section 7 Agreement between the Simpcw First Nation and the Government of British Columbia for Trekor Metals’ Yellowhead Copper Project:

“The agreement between the Simpcw First Nation and the Province is an important milestone in advancing the Yellowhead Copper Project through the environmental assessment process and on towards a Final Investment Decision.

“As a $2 billion investment in BC, the Yellowhead copper mine will be a major employer in the Thompson-Nicola region, supporting 525 direct, family-supporting jobs and 2,445 indirect jobs across the province with an estimated payroll of $218 million per year that will make a big difference in Clearwater, Barrière, and Vavenby.

“The mine will support $1.24 billion in economic activity per year within the Thompson-Nicola region, while increasing Canada’s total annual copper production by 16 percent.

“Trekor’s Yellowhead Copper Project has the potential to be one of the most significant copper mines in Canada while supporting thousands of BC jobs and contributing billions of dollars to national GDP. With approximately 70% of this economic activity estimated to occur in BC’s Thompson-Nicola region, the Yellowhead Copper Project demonstrates how the responsible development of BC’s critical minerals can make BC and Canada’s economic future stronger.”
