VANCOUVER, BC – Michael Goehring, President & CEO of the Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC) made the following statement on today’s Strategic Investment Agreement to expand the production of critical minerals at Teck’s smelting and refining complex in Trail, British Columbia.
“We applaud the federal government for its investment to expand production capacity at Teck’s Trail Operations which will strengthen BC’s role as a reliable supplier of critical minerals and metals and advance Canada’s national security and defence objectives.
“Trail Operations is one of the few facilities in North America capable of producing these strategically important specialty metals at scale. Today’s agreement highlights the importance of strong partnerships between industry and government to increase domestic processing capabilities while also creating jobs and economic opportunities for British Columbians.
“Today’s announcement is another indication of the growing momentum in British Columbia’s mining sector.
“Responsible refining at Trail has been an integral part of BC’s mining industry for 130 years. MABC is pleased the federal government supports the strategic importance of this world-class operation and is securing its future role as a vital part of the global critical minerals supply chain.”
